Lighthouse Japanese Restaurant

Sushi is a tradition for us. It’s always been a favorite of mine, growing up near San Francisco’s Japantown. For the mister, he first tried sushi about ten years ago, needless to say we’re both hooked. Like all sushi lovers we’ve tried just about everything, with a few exceptions. Sorry, I can’t eat Uni, something about the day-glow yellow mushiness. Gives me the chills, but I digress…
Every few weeks, we like to grab sushi for our ride home, and every time we go to Lighthouse. For takeout, they just can’t be beat. We don’t generally order anything too outrageous for the ride home, usually just rolls, the crispy dynamite, katsu, yam, rainbow and the Godzilla. Nothing too messy in the truck.

For dine-in they have a pretty diverse menu, especially considering they are a Japanese restaurant in the middle of the prairies. There are plenty of appetizers, including a very tasty tempura, several kinds of donburi and although I don’t remember seeing it on the menu, I’m pretty sure they serve udon. They also have Japanese and domestic beer, sake and plum wine. We always have great service here, staff don’t feel inclined to hover, but always make us feel well cared for.
If you want to learn how to make your own sushi, Unami Shop offers classes. And if you’re looking for general information about sushi, try the sushi encyclopedia. There are a couple of sushi apps too. Try Sushipedia for iPhone or Sushi Encyclopedia for Android. Both are free apps.
