Burgers with Sweet Potato Patties and Chipotle Sauce
We like burgers, and we eat them frequently. For us it’s a fast go-to meal because burgers are so flexible, you can make them with just about any meat, and serve them with just about any side dish and as for buns, well, the varieties are endless! Tonight we decided to try something new with our burgers and it was a smashing success.
Let’s start with the meat patties. Tonight we used 2 parts lean ground beef to 1 part mild italian sausage. The sausage adds a nice amount of fat and great flavor. We topped off the patties with provolone cheese. I like provolone, it adds a nice amount of creamy cheesy-ness and a touch of smoke.
Next layer was my favorite, sweet potato patty! Nothing too fancy there, we grated one sweet potato (be sure to let them sit in a strainer for a bit, to let the moisture drain), added an egg and a half cup of flour and fried them until crispy (in olive oil) and put them in to oven at 425 for about 15 minutes, to cook the rest of the way through.
To top it off, we used my favorite chipotle sauce. It’s nothing too fancy, simply 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt, and about 2 tablespoons of my all time favorite hot sauce, Chipotle Cholula. I love this hot sauce, because it’s not burning hot, it has great flavor, especially with the chipotle.
Last, the buns… let’s be honest, we all love nice firm buns. With a juicy burger, a firm bun holds up well and we like the ones that are made at IGA. You can toast them, throw them on the grill or under the broiler for little crisp or straight out of the bag. These buns hold up! We really would have preferred pretzel buns, but couldn’t find any… if you know where to get them in Lethbridge let us know!
Eat well, eat often, eat without boundaries!
