Yesterday we stopped by one of our favorite stores, Umami Shop in downtown Lethbridge. Sometimes we stop in, just to see if there’s anything new or unusual we need to try, and one thing caught my eye… KACIE POPIN’ COOKING CANDY KITS! We’ve seen them on the internet, and wanted to get a few, but this is the first time we’ve actually seen them in person. Doesn’t surprise me at all that we would find them here.
They come in a few different styles we bought the Bento Box and DIY Sushi kits. When you open the boxes there are no English instructions, so I recommend looking for the how to videos on YouTube.
We started with the Bento Box and turned it into a hot mess. I’m not pointing fingers, but someone ate one of the panda’s ears. And the pink thing is a squid. No really, it is. The Bento box may have been the victim of too many cooks in the gummy candy kitchen so I decided to watch while the Sushi took form.
Next we moved onto the sushi kit, and had much better success. We let things solidify a little longer and making the roe was like watching science in action. I think it turned out great
Once both kits were done we felt obligated to eat them. That may have been the worst part of the kits. They’re gummy candies, but they all had odd textures especially the white rice parts which had, well, an oddly curdled texture. Sort of like gelatinous cottage cheese.
There are other kits available, and I HIGHLY recommend giving them a go. We really had fun playing with these. Check out the selection at Umami Shop.
